After the 50/1 success of Kilfenora in race one at Punchestown, Graphic Legacy was another surprise winner for the majority of punters when popping up at 20/1 (from 25s) in the Festival Free Upgrade Offer Ends Soon Handicap Hurdle.
The seven-year-old Where Or When gelding, took his opportunity under Ricky Doyle, after getting into the two and a half miler having been listed as the first reserve.
The Mark Fahey-trained Graphic Legacy came a second time to outpoint favourite Rock On Barney by a length and a half.
"Thanks must go to the owner Aaron Deverell (from Tullamore) for sticking with him. He's been a bit frustrating but has always showed plenty at home. Things have come right today, and we'll find something similar," said Fahey.
P.D. Kennedy, rider of Quelle Belle Vie (FR) trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was making a respiratory noise when pulled up.
D.J. Mullins, rider of Phar Island trained by Thomas Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up after being brought to a standstill by an injured horse.
The Stewards requested a report from Mark Fahey, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Graphic Legacy, placed first, as compared with its recent form.
Mark Fahey reported that his charge has bad conformation of his hind legs which has made it difficult to keep him sound and in continuous training.
He added that his father made special hind shoes which offered support to the outside of the hoof when being trained at home and this has made it easier to keep the animal in continuous training.
He also felt that his horses may have been under a cloud at the time of his previous race as both runners on that date pulled up.
Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
